Day 2 and Day 3 of Cali!!

Okay so the last two days have been crazy and sooo fun!! I have been at my friend Jill's house and we have been doing all the California things... On Friday we went to the beach after I woke up and did my sprints.. Little did we know that the beach was going to have waves that were 8 to 12 feet... ya so it was mostly relaxing on the sand... There ended up being red flags up and down the southern coast. In Newport at The Wedge there were 20 to 30 foot waves so it was crazy and unfortunately a body surfer died there on Friday. Prayers are with his family.

After the beach we headed to Jill's gym so we could workout and then went to one of my favorite restaurants of all time! BJs... :) I ate my favorite salad and Jill, Kaitlyn, and I shared an amazing Oreo pizookie! After BJs we headed back to Jill's house to get ready for the Angel game which was freakin' awesome! :) here are some pics:

3-D glasses for the fireworks ;)

After the game we of course had to go for a late night run to In-N-Out which is always delicious.. And we continued our tradition of forcing Jill to eat a fry with ketchup on it.... :)

And that was Day 2 :)

Day 3 started off a little slow... :) So Katie had a friend that was at the Wedge (a beach and Newport) and he said there were 30 foot waves so we decided to go and see them.. we first stopped off at our traditional bagel store for some breakfast and then drove down PCH to Newport... Let me just say that none of us had ever been to this beach so we don't know how to get there. We ended up in Huntington so we knew we had gone to far. We ended up turning down a road and got stuck in major traffic and there was absolutely no parking so we decided to head back home. By the time we got back we had been gone for 3 and 1/2 hours and it was all driving in the car. So then we just chilled at the house for a little bit watching Friends. We got ready and then went to Disneyland. :) It was Katie's 18th birthday so we also stopped and she bought a lottery ticket. Here are some pictures from our amazing night (we decided to go around 6 and stay until closing which is 12):

It was soooo fun!! More updates to come!! :)

California!

Well yesterday morning was a little less than fun because we had to wake up at 4 AM to make our 7 AM flight but we made it! We flew into the OC and were met by two of my favorite people, Jill and Kaitlyn. We were hungry so we packed up and headed to Baja Fresh. Then we spent the rest of the day laughing, talking, and just chillin. It was great but I went to bed at 8 PM. I am still on east coast time and i was beyond tired. I can't wait for all that is in store for me in my hometown! :) :) mc

July 4th

My July 4th was spent with my parents. We were luckily able to experience a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway and oh what an experience it was!! Fenway has hardcore baseball fans, I loved it!

The Green Monstah: :)

Me at Fenway:

A typical fan that was sitting behind us who loved to call the opposing team but especially his own beloved Red Sox "jackasses"...

It was a beautiful day in Boston:

We didn't see any fireworks but we did hear them from our house while we were concluding our great day with the movie Last Chance Harvey.

A Legend Lost....

Last week the world was stunned by the loss of legends, such as Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon. One could not turn on a TV, flip through a magazine, or unfold a newspaper without being flooded with images, writings, and videos proving the influence and impact these lives had on millions of people. Along with this list of celebrities and famous faces the world lost another legend this past week: Father Thomas King, S.J.

Although Father King died at the age of 80, if you were to ask many of his Georgetown students and friends they would tell you they expected him to live forever. Even though Father King's picture isn't seen on every news channel this week, his influence on his students lives spans just as far as the legends listed above. The passion, yet unparalleled reverence he brought to his theological teaching and his vocation could be seen by all who knew him.

I was lucky enough to have Father King my first semester in college. He taught the intro level theology course at Georgetown, Problem of God. What I remember most from that first day of class was the presence he brought with him into a room. The class started at 10:15 and without fail he would show up at 10:14 and enter the class without a sound. Without demanding it, a silence would fill the room, not only because he rarely spoke above a whisper, but also because the class knew he alone was a Georgetown institution.

He enthralled the class with his teachings on Sartre, St. Augustine, CS Lewis, Bonhoeffer, and his all time favorite and what most of his writings are focused on, Teilhard de Chardin. He always challenged your thinking and wanted you to see all things theological from other points of view. His famous last lecture that he gives in every Problem of God course he teaches was probably his most profound. He connected the three sections of the course to the Trinity. Father King brought the imagination and joy that should be experienced in religious life. His 80 year life was a life worth living and emulating!

When I was told about the sudden death of this legend and my professor Father King, I was struck by a great sadness. I was not sad for him, because I know he is with his Savior probably running and laughing. I was sad because it reminded me of how I sometimes forget to live and embrace opportunities. His death struck me because all last year I had told myself, I need to go to Father King's 11:15 mass. But I never went. I always told myself there will always be next year. Now I am left with the feeling that I don't know that there will always be another year, another month, another week, or another day. His death is a reminder that everyday counts. Father King lived life as if everyday was his last and I will always remember him for that.

You will truly and deeply be missed Father King, not only by Georgetown but also by me. I thank the Lord for letting me be touched by his life.

Team Smith in New Jersey 09

My mom and I just returned from our third trip to New Jersey/ New York with Team smith, except this time instead of playing for the team I helped coach. The week included fun trips to New york, that included seeing the Broadway play Shrek the Musical, games, meeting with Christina in the city, Harlem RBI clinic, and just catching up with old friends... Instead of getting into all the details I will let the pictures speak for themselves...
